Why CHOICE in Education Matters

We live in a country that values freedom of choice.  Dr. Suess Quote

We value our right to vote.  We value our right to choose how we spend our time, where we shop, who takes care of our medical needs, and where we live.  We value choice!

Education is one of the most important choices we make. How children spend the majority of their day impacts what they learn, how they solve problems, how they define themselves, and their ability to interact with family and friends. Schools help students and families define a child's future.  Parents should always have the freedom to choose something that has such a significant impact in the lives of their children.

Our Educational Philosophy

Students who learn to apply knowledge and skills in

positive, collaborative, supportive settings

will be prepared for their future.

This educational philosophy is based on four fundamental beliefs:

1.    Quality education is the key to a successful future.
2.    Students learn best when they are personally invested in their own learning.
3.    Students are more likely to be personally invested in learning that has authentic value to them such as Project Based Learning.
4.    Students learn best in a safe, supportive environment
.

What do students say?

"What I like best about my school is how they use technology to help us learn."

"All the teachers are really nice, and they care about us."

"What I like best about the school is science. I really love science and when it's taught by a really good teacher, it's even better!"

"I like that there are lots of different classes that I can choose from. I especially like that I can take a high school algebra and physical science class."

"What I like best about my school is that we use more hands on activities and not so much just looking into a book all day."

"[The teachers] treat me with respect. Most of them change their teaching to help me understand better. And they are always willing to help when I don't understand."

"What I like best about my school is that we are in a safe environment and that there isn't a need for me to feel unsafe."

What do parents say about ISTCS?

Positive Environment  Love Teachers

"[My student] comes home every day telling me the cool things they did that day. When I say every day I really mean every day...I love that he is excited about school."

"Since [my daughter] started school at ISTCS her grades have improved dramatically, she enjoys going to school, and her self-esteem has been restored. I am very pleased with this school and their faculty."

"ISTCS has a reputation for being a safe and dedicated school. The teachers are diligent at watching the kids and keeping the hallways clean from vulgar and crude actions/words."

"The smaller class size and smaller overall population is appealing for students who feel stressed in large social situations, those who struggle academically, and those who excel academically. Courses seem to be more tailored to the individual."

"I notice a distinct difference in the teachers; every teacher at this school seems to genuinely care about the success of all of their students. In my experiences elsewhere, this hasn't always been the case. I know that my children have benefited from their time in this school, and I love to recommend ISTCS to others."

"We love that the high achieving students are allowed to spread their wings and excel with a group of peers that match their learning levels and goals. Faculty provides a very warm and positive environment that not only is conducive to learning but also models the behavior that students should emulate."

"[I like] the fact that my child learns better, is treated better, and gets better grades than in other schools. He seems excited to learn."
